Solvalla, Elitloppet Tour 2023

We welcome our international guests to Elitlopp Tour 2023, May 26-29 2023!

The Elitlopp is not just one of the greatest trotting events in the world, but it is also like a folk festival, comparable to the Little Brown Jug in America. It’s held in Stockholm, one of the most beautiful cities in the world at a time when Sweden is enjoying the full bloom of springtime.

Sixteen of the best trotters from around Europe and North America compete in two elimination heats and a final all in the same day. You will be able to enjoy some of the greatest trotting action you’ll ever see and hear the roar of over 30,000 trotting devotees.

Moreover, you will also tour Stockholm, often called “the Venice of the North” because of the crisp, clean waters that give the city it´s unique character. In late May, Stockholm enjoys almost 20 hours of daylight and wonderful weather, so the trotting action on the track and the sights of the city combined make this trip a truly memorable experience.

Program arranged from Friday May 26th to Monday May 29th. If you wish to arrive Thursday or earlier please contact us and we will make arrangements with the hotel. The program will start on Friday morning at 10AM.

  • Friday May 26th: Arrival in Stockholm - Sightseeing & Yearling Auction

    This morning is your chance to see the beauty of Stockholm with its many historic and interesting sights, such as the Royal Castle, the Old Town and more. This tour is by foot, walking with an excellent English-speaking guide. The tour ends at the Vasa Museum where a savory lunch is served at the restaurant.

    In the afternoon, Equi Tours will provide transportation from the hotel to the Elite Yearling Auction, which is held in the outskirt of Stockholm. This sale is sure to have yearlings by some American stallions and many by top Swedish and French stallions. We will meet a professional who will explain to us about Swedish trotting and breeding.

    Dinner at your own expence tonight.

    If you prefer not to attend the yearling auction, you have the evening to explore the wonders of Stockholm.

  • Saturday, May 27th: Menhammar Studfarm, Solvalla & Dinner in the Archipelago

    A Swedish breakfast-buffet is served at the hotel.

    You’re in for a very special day as we start the morning with a visit to Menhammar Studfarm, Sweden’s largest and most famous breeding farm. It is owned by Margareta Wallenius-Kleberg, who has stood many famous stallions such as Mack Lobell, Zoot Suit, Smokin Yankee and Viking Kronos. Today you’ll find Nuncio, Readly Express, Maharajah, Credit Winner, Calgary Games and others at this
    beautiful and historic farm.

    Furthermore, we will also have a chance to visit the training camp of Menhammar, Yttersta. Here, many star horses have been raised and competed. From Above, Jaded, Jocose, Orecchietti, Panne de Moteur, Maharajah and Who's Who are some examples. The training facility is beautifully located with a view to Lake Mälaren in the west, and in the east, the 5 km long forest trail winds its way.

    We will return to Stockholm and Solvalla, where you can enjoy an exciting afternoon of V75-races. The level of this Saturday’s racing is higher than normal, with some of the best horses in Scandinavia competing. You will enjoy the action from a comfortable VIP-seat in the restaurant (lunch included). You are also welcome to join the crowd in the public area, it’s a nice experience!

    Transfer back to the hotel in late afternoon.

    Evening – Come with us to the beautiful island FJÄDERHOLMARNA in the archipelago of Stockholm, where we’ll have nice evening with (a 3-course) dinner and drinks. (Optional tour)

  • Sunday May 28th: THE ELITLOPP DAY

    A Swedish breakfast-buffet is served at the hotel.

    Today, you’re about to see one of the greatest trotting shows in the world! Fans will be at Solvalla early in
    the morning to stake out a good vantage point for this great event. You’ll enjoy the action again from a comfortable VIP-seat in the restaurant Festvåningen.

    The best trotters in the world will fight it out in two heats for the privilege of joining the honor roll of
    Elitlopp winners.

    The Elitlopp isn’t the only top race on this Sundays crammed program. You’ll find several international
    quality trotters from all over the world in the line-up and will even get to see the special cold-blood trotters,
    so beloved in the Nordic countries, fight it out on the track. The atmosphere is smoldering and the excitement vast!

    After the races, Equi Tours will provide transportation back to the hotel.

    The evening is free to spend on your own.

  • Monday May 29th: More visits and/or Departure Day

    A Swedish breakfast-buffet is served at the hotel.

    During the day, depending on your flight times, you will head back to the airport for your flight home. Please let us know your flight details if you want us to book your transfer to the airport.

    You can choose between two visits this morning:

    - The ABBA Museum – if your flight is in the afternoon, evening or next day, you might want to go to the ABBA museum, not far from City Center. Please let us know if you wish to have a guided tour from the hotel in the morning (about 80 Eur including transfer from the hotel, minimum 10 persons)

    - Swedish trainer-visit – if you wish to have more inspiration or knowledge of Swedish trotting, you might want to visit one of the many successful Swedish trainers (Daniel Redén, Svante Båth, Reijo Liljendahl or other. About 80 eur including transfer from the hotel and lunch, minimum 10 persons)

  • Extend your stay!

    Your memorable Elitlopp Tour ends Monday, but You are free to stay extra days on your own if you wish. Equi Tours will be happy to offer you a package price, please contact us for further information.
